Springtown ISD is proud to announce the induction of James L. Kingrea into the prestigious Wall of Honor, recognizing his exceptional contributions to both athletics and the community. Kingrea, a standout athlete and dedicated community servant, is a proud alumnus of Springtown ISD, having attended Springtown schools from 1952 to 1965.
During his time at Springtown, Jim Kingrea earned a reputation for his grit and determination, excelling as a four-year starter on the Porcupine football team. Serving as a linebacker and nose guard, Kingrea’s leadership shone through, particularly during his junior and senior years when he captained the team. His on-field success earned him All-District honors twice, and his senior year saw him achieve an impressive 130 tackles—a record that remains a hallmark of Porcupine athletic history.
In addition to his accomplishments on the football field, Kingrea was a track and field standout. As a regional qualifier for three consecutive years, he placed 3rd in the State Meet as a sophomore. His senior year performance, with a record-setting shot put throw of 54 feet 6 inches, further cemented his status as one of Springtown’s most accomplished athletes.
After graduation, Kingrea pursued his athletic talents at the University of Corpus Christi and later at Henderson County Junior College, where he won a conference title in shot put and discus. However, his passion for giving back led him back to Springtown, where he served as a school board trustee for six years. Kingrea’s dedication extended beyond the classroom as he coached young athletes, assisted in organizing the Pojo Relays, and played a crucial role in the Springtown Athletic Booster Club, even serving as its Vice President.
In addition to his athletic and educational contributions, Kingrea has been a valued member of the Springtown First United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees and taught Sunday School for several years. Even after a successful 25-year career with Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Kingrea remains deeply connected to the Springtown community. Though he now resides elsewhere, his support for Springtown Athletics continues, as he proudly holds season tickets to POJO football games.
James L. Kingrea’s induction into the Springtown ISD Wall of Honor serves as a testament to his enduring legacy of excellence, service, and community commitment. His contributions to Springtown ISD, both as an athlete and a leader, have left an indelible mark on the district, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
