Springtown ISD - Porcupine Academy
Springtown Independent School District (ISD) is thrilled to announce the return of Porcupine Academy for the 2024-2025 school year. Designed to cater to non-traditional students seeking a high school diploma, Porcupine Academy offers a flexible and accessible educational platform to empower individuals to achieve their academic goals.
Porcupine Academy welcomes students who may be at risk of dropping out of high school due to various reasons like work commitments, starting a family, or those who are seeking a way to earn their high school diploma at an accelerated pace. Additionally, students currently enrolled in high school can transfer to Porcupine Academy to complete their diploma. Porcupine Academy strives to accommodate students who aim to graduate while balancing the responsibilities of raising a family.
"We are excited to offer this innovative opportunity to students in our community. Porcupine Academy provides a supportive environment where students can earn their high school diploma, regardless of their circumstances," said Mr. Shane Strickland, Superintendent of Springtown ISD.
Porcupine Academy's dedicated staff will work closely with each student to develop an individualized graduation plan tailored to their unique circumstances and needs. The time it takes to complete the program is entirely dependent on the student, but a minimum pace of one course completion every two weeks is required. The shortened, 260 minute school day ensures flexibility and can accommodate various life commitments much easier than a traditional school.
To ensure students receive the necessary guidance and support, Porcupine Academy provides ongoing monitoring throughout the program. A staff member will monitor student progress and assign coursework according to the graduation plan, ensuring that students stay on track toward earning their diploma in a timely manner.
Porcupine Academy offers a fully online learning experience, allowing students to complete coursework at an accelerated pace. The self-paced nature of the program empowers students to work as quickly as they desire, providing the opportunity for accelerated progress. Students are expected to complete at least one class every two weeks to maintain enrollment in the Academy.
Upon completion of coursework for classes with required state assessments, Porcupine Academy students will be required to take the state exit exam for each corresponding class. This ensures that students are well-prepared to meet the necessary educational standards set forth by the state, as participation in End-of-Course STAAR testing is a graduation requirement.
Springtown ISD is committed to expanding educational opportunities and supporting students in achieving their dreams. Porcupine Academy serves as a testament to this commitment, offering a flexible and personalized pathway to a high school diploma.
